The center provides a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment for girls between the ages of 12 and 20.
The Parenting Program offers a unique residential treatment setting for girls and young women who are pregnant or parenting an infant or toddler (0-3). This program provides a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment by which young moms and moms-to-be can develop valuable life skills. There are opportunities to participate in parenting education and activities that prepare her for childbirth, emphasize bonding, attachment, healthy boundaries and early childhood development essentials.
The Parenting Program partners with the on-site Miller Early Learning Center, a licensed and certified five-star SPARK child care center for infants and toddlers 0-3. The day care allows young moms to attend school, work and enrichment activities that promote personal growth that will ultimately have a positive impact in the lives of their little ones. Likewise, these littlest ones receive nurturing care and early childhood education in which to learn, grow and develop.
Miller Early Learning Center
The Miller Early Learning Center (ELC) is a licensed 5-star SPARK program dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing and educational environment for children 6 weeks through three years. The teaching staff meet highly qualified standards and represent multi-cultural backgrounds. The staff collaborate with families to support healthy parent/child attachment and healthy relationships with safe adults. The ELC is influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and uses Creative Curriculum to plan individualized, developmentally appropriate activities. Parent/child interactive groups are facilitated with focus on music and early literacy. ELC addresses the individual needs of children as part of the daily care and strives to support cultural traditions of the children and families enrolled.
The Miller Early Learning Center is licensed for 16 children - eight infants and eight toddlers. The classrooms maintain a 4:1 child-staff ratio. The ELC enjoys a vibrant, committed and growing team of volunteers who work directly with the children.
Cottage Program - Independent Living Skills
The Cottage Program is a step toward independent living for young women nearing adulthood (16-20). The Cottage provides apartment style and group living for residents either transitioning from the Parenting or Wildflowers Programs, or who are directly referred for independent living.
The Cottage Program gives young women an opportunity to learn valuable life skills necessary to make the transition to the community and out of state custody. The program focuses on continued education, vocational training, budgeting, healthy meal planning and preparation, housekeeping and the skills necessary to be a good tenant/renter. Young women are encouraged to obtain employment, save money and learn to use free time responsibly and productively. The young women are introduced to community resources that will facilitate their positive engagement in the community and build the foundation for success.
